Biography
Hitoshi Mimura, an emeritus professor of department of quantum Science and energy engineering, Tohoku University, Japan. Currently, he is also a supreme technical advisor of UNION SHOWA K. K. He received his PhD in Tohoku University (1983). He had been working at the Tohoku University for 40 years and held a post of Professor from 2003. His research interests are chemical separation processes related to nuclear fuel cycle and radioactive waste management, especially ion exchange and extraction chromatographic separation for nuclear fuel reprocessing and radioactive contaminated wastewater treatment. He has published more than 200 scholar papers. He is the member of the board of directors of Japan Association of Ion Exchange.
Abstract
Large amounts of high-activity-level contaminated water were generated from the nuclear accident of Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. At present, the cold shutdown is completed by cooling system, while large amounts of contaminated (>500,000 m3) are still stored. In the lecture, the decontamination of nuclides (U, Am, Np, Cs, Sr) from radioactive waste water by zeolite is introduced, as well as their final geological disposal.
