Biography
Dr. Wataru Natsu is a distinguished professor at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT). He is a fellow of The Engineering Academy of Japan and serve as board members of several academic societies.
Dr. Natsu obtained his bachelor and master degrees from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), respectively in 1982 and 1987. He had served as a lecturer in SJTU. After obtaining his doctor degree from TUAT in 1995, He had worked at a precision equipment manufacturer for 7 years. Dr. Natsu’s research interests are in manufacturing and machining, shape measurement of semiconductor wafers, and management of technology.
Abstract
Micro deep hole drilling is one of important applications of electrical discharge machining (EDM) in the automotive, medical device and die/mold industries. Deep hole drilling is difficult due to the significant deterioration of byproduct evacuation with the drilling depth. Electrochemical machining (ECM), on the other hand, is another typical method of non-traditional machining. Because of the fluidity of the liquid electrolyte, it is difficult to realize high precision machining. Technical problems in EDM and ECM, and novel measures to realize high quality machining will be introduced and explained.
